Professor Gemma Figtree

Gemma Figtree is a Professor in Medicine at the University of Sydney and an interventional cardiologist at Royal North Shore Hospital. She attended Queenwood for eight years, graduating in 1992, and a few years later became Queenwood’s first Rhodes Scholar. Her work focuses on improving the care for heart attack patients through research and clinical programs. She has a strong commitment to education, and particularly science education for girls and women.

Prof Figtree is a principal investigator on research grants of over $4.5m and holds research fellowships at the Heart Foundation and NHMRC. She has many publications to her credit and her leading role in Australian medical research is reflected in her roles as Honorary Director of Heart Research Australia and member of the Expert Advisory Group for the Structural Review of the National Health and Medical Research Council’s funding scheme.
