Debating is a great way for girls to meet new friends, voice their opinions on topical issues, develop critical thinking and public speaking skills, challenge themselves and have fun.
JUNIOR SCHOOL DEBATING
Queenwood Junior students compete in the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) competition held on Friday afternoons.
Teams are selected from Years 5 and 6 and a large squad is trained to offer competition experience to a number of girls. House Debating also offers girls in Years 5 and 6 their first competition experience.
SENIOR SCHOOL DEBATING
For Senior girls debating helps develop important academic skills such as active thinking, public speaking, research, planning and preparation.
Queenwood participates in the Independent Schools’ Debating Association (ISDA), a Friday evening interschool competition held in Terms 1 and 2.
Experienced, professional debating coaches from outside Queenwood are brought in to provide training for the teams. Girls train for 90 minutes a week at a time arranged with their coach.
