Building update
At the start of Term 3, work on the redevelopment of the 44 Mandolong Road Senior campus is proceeding to plan with work on track for completion in early 2010.
After a sod turning ceremony held on 3 July 2009, at which Queenwood was presented with a ceremonial shovel, work has progressed well. Demolition of existing buildings is well advanced and stripping out of existing buildings to be retained is underway.
Completion of demolition work is expected by early August 2009 followed by excavation works to be finished by late August or early September. Structural works are expected to begin in late August to finish around Christmas time. Façade and roof works will see expected completion of the new Lawrance campus in early 2010.
The redeveloped campus will be home to science and sport. Laboratories, classrooms and a theatrette will be located here along with sporting facilities including a 25 metre indoor pool, a learn-to-swim pool, a multi-purpose indoor court and fitness centre.
Official opening of recording studio
The official opening of the Queenwood recording studio took place on Wednesday 20 May with the first live performance recorded by the Queenwood Jazz Band. Queenwood Old Girls Association donated the recording studio so it was fitting that the studio was launched by Old Girl and renowned composer Ann Carr-Boyd.
Besides live recording, studio recording will also be undertaken which will be useful for students in creating exam CDs. Elective music students will gain experience recording their compositions and doing advanced mixing and editing.
