Scholarships are offered at Queenwood to provide opportunities for students to experience education at Queenwood with part of full remission of fees. Current Queenwood students and students from outside Queenwood are eligible to apply for scholarships in Years 5, 6 and 10. The award of a scholarship acknowledges a girl’s talents and supports her future education at Queenwood.
Queenwood offers a number of scholarships to students at different stages of their education. The scholarships help provide opportunities for girls to develop their potential academically and in creative fields, while benefiting from education as part of the Queenwood School community.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of tests administered by an external academic assessor as well as additional subject specific tests where relevant. The awarding of any scholarship is at the discretion of the Principal. Consideration is given to students based on academic potential and other appropriate factors. Full or part remission of fees may be granted, for example 10, 25, 50 or 75 per cent.
Different types of scholarship are offered for the following years:
Years 6 –12
Girls at any school are invited to apply for an academic scholarship for Years 6 –12. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic potential and ability to contribute to the life of the School. Candidates must sit a scholarship examination with final selection at the Principal’s discretion.
Years 7 –12
Academic, Visual Arts and Music scholarships are offered for these senior years with students required to sit examinations and separate practical tests if applying in the fields of music performance or Visual Arts.
Years 11 and 12
Academic, foreign language and art scholarships are available for students with strengths in these fields. In addition to sitting an examination, a portfolio of work is assessed for the art scholarship. Oral tests are conducted for foreign language scholarships.
Academic achievement as displayed in the scholarship examination is important for all scholarships and is seriously considered along with the students’ practical test results in their areas of specialty. However, the decision is not based exclusively on academic results but also takes into account a student’s willingness to be an active participant in the Queenwood School community.
Applicants from Years 5, 6 and 10 are invited to participate in the Queenwood scholarship examinations to be sat in Term 1 that are advertised in the press in January/February of each year.
