Junior School
The Junior School is a stimulating learning environment for girls from Kindergarten to Year 6. Each girl is actively encouraged to perform to the best of her ability and the theme of Personal Best is reflected in all areas of the School’s life. The pursuit of personal achievement along with commitment, initiative and creative thinking are the cornerstones of education at Queenwood.
The curriculum, based on the National and State curriculum structure, is rich and challenging and includes an advanced use of technology.
An excellent class/teacher ratio ensures appropriate class sizes and a nurturing, personal approach to learning. The well-equipped classrooms have easy access to specialist facilities. A spacious library allows access for independent, small group or class research at all times of the day.
Two outdoor playgrounds provide both shelter and open space for energetic play. There are two tennis courts on site (also usable as netball courts) and it is a five-minute walk to a range of excellent local parks and ovals, allowing the implementation of a comprehensive sporting program.
Gifted and Talented Programs are provided for girls with specific talents and interests and a Support Program is available for girls with special needs. Buddy and Mentor Programs ensure that each girl feels valued and part of a close family and allow the older partner to develop her leadership skills.
The Personal Development Program for Years 5 and 6 deals with physical and emotional changes and helps prepare each girl for her secondary school years.
Recognising the importance of educating the ‘whole child’, a large range of co-curricular activities are provided such as speech and drama, orchestras, bands, public speaking and debating including interschool debating, chess, Junior School Gazette and journal writing and Tournament of the Minds.
The Senior and Junior Schools join together as one for all traditional school occasions.
