Charity

Each year the students decide on a cause or charity they choose to support with fundraising activities throughout the year. The combined efforts of Queenwood girls have raised thousands of dollars over the years for organisations such as the Breast Cancer Network, Assistance Dogs Australia and the Exodus Foundation. In addition to a focal charity each year students show their initiative raising money for causes that have touched their hearts. Students help in annual fund raising for the Salvation Army and Legacy.

As part of student development girls roll up their sleeves to help on projects in practical ways by undertaking jobs such as redecorating a classroom for St Lucy’s, a school for visually impaired and disabled children.

Over the past few years Queenwood has had as its major focus a role in the Schools for Schools project raising funds and providing practical support for a number of schools in Cambodia. Along with money raised for equipment and improvements to the schools, some Queewnood Junior School teachers have travelled to Cambodia to assist in teacher training while Queenwood students have also visited the schools and been involved helping in classroom activities.

This year Queenwood students’ energies are being devoted to an Indigenous Schools project providing support to a school called Owairtilla in Canteen Creek, a remote Indigenous community in the Northern Territory.

To date students and their families have supported a drive with books and funds to help equip the school’s library. The work with Owairtilla in ongoing and Queenwood’s Charity Prefects and staff in both Junior and Senior School continue to come up with inspired ways in which the schools can work together.
